Langhe DOC Nas-cëtta del Comune di Novello
A unique native variety and a remarkable semi-aromatic white in a land of reds—Nas-cëtta has found in Le Strette one of the pioneers of its modern rediscovery.
Nas-cëtta di Novello is a truly distinctive wine, an homage to its territory and an added value to the diversity of Langhe wines. It comes from an ancient white grape rooted in Novello’s soils, a variety that had almost vanished until just a few years ago. This version enhances the most varietal and fruity traits of Nascetta, without neglecting its structure and natural longevity.
Le Strette defines it as the “classic” expression, both because this is the label that has dressed its bottles since the very beginning (with only subtle adjustments), and because it is produced from a blend of Nascetta grapes from four different vineyards within the municipality of Novello.
In the Vineyard
- Altitude: 350–420 m a.s.l.
- Soil: calcareous matrix with alternating sand and clay layers
- Variety: Nascetta (Nas-cëtta, as we say in Novello)
- Vine density: 4,500–5,000 plants/ha
- Training system: Guyot on vertical trellising
- Planting years: 1948, 1983, 2009, 2014, 2016
In the Cellar
- Crushing and destemming
- Cold pre-fermentation maceration followed by gentle pressing
- Slow, steady fermentation in stainless steel at 18°C
- Aging on fine lees for 7–9 months before bottling, between early and late summer
In the Glass
- Color: straw yellow with occasional greenish highlights; good intensity
- Aroma: complex yet delicate, with notes of ripe fruit, flowers, acacia honey, citrus and aromatic herbs. Light hints of Moscato—more noticeable in youth—highlight the semi-aromatic nature of the grape.
- Palate: savory and persistent, with fresh acidity, excellent mineral structure and a very slight tannic edge.
Food Pairings
Ideal with cured meats, meat-based appetizers, vegetables and fish dishes, delicate first courses, and fresh cheeses.
